Pick Up One Piece Of Litter A Day

Since the late 1980s, I have worked with this saying. Six thousand bumperstickers, of four different editions, have been printed, distributed, and I would not be surprised if many of them are still seen. One bumpersticker can be seen by thousands-- six thousand may have a readership into the millions.
At this writing (July 2009) I've had very little congratulatory feedback, so I thought I'd at least mention the saying's history, link it to my other blogs, and go from there. A case could be made that at least some of the saying's popularity has derived from my work-- something that of course any author would appreciate. Priority should be mentioned here-- I believe the seed idea grows into consciousness somehow, and I am proud of the years put into this. Many individuals, post-late 1980s, have mentioned beginning the idea of picking up a piece of litter a day as a way to eventually rid Earth of litter.

I had formally contacted Keep America Beautiful about the idea (Mr. Evan Jones of the Stamford CT office) sometime in the early to mid '90s. Although he was interested, the idea was never formally accepted. As of this writing, although the national KAB does not yet use the saying, many, many of its State affiliates feature it in their advertising.

In a web search for "pick up one piece of litter," my friend Elizabeth Mullen's website, litterproject.com, comes up first. She has made tremendous effort with this similar idea.

The idea is growing. Type it in Google and see the diversity of efforts.
